IND vs SL, 2nd T20I: Twitter Erupts As Rohit Sharma's Record-Equalling Century Propels Hosts To Huge Score
Updated - 22 Dec 2017, 09:45 PM
For the second game in a row Sri Lanka skipper Thisara Perera’s decision to bowl first backfired as Rohit Sharma scored the joint-fastest century in T20Is to help India post their highest T20I total in the ongoing second game in Indore. The Men in Blue scored a mammoth 260 for 5 in the allotted 50 overs.
Sent into bat first, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma started the proceedings on a steady note, scoring at six runs per over for the first three overs. However, the duo decided to fire on all cylinders from there on and there was no looking back since then. In the fourth over, Rahul hit Dushmantha Chameera for a maximum before Rohit hit 3 fours and as many sixes in the next two overs to help India race away to 59 in the powerplay.
The carnage continued in the following overs with Rohit taking the charge. The stand-in skipper shifted his gear to the highest possible level and looked to hit every ball out of the park. Unfortunately, for the visitors, he succeeded in most of the attempts. By the time the tenth over ended, India’s scoreboard was reading a commanding 117 for no loss with Rohit batting on 73 off just 29 and Rahul on 44.
Continuing his red-hot form, Rohit went on to complete his century off just 35 balls to equal David Miller’s record of fastest-ever T20I century. Rohit’s demoltion finally came to an end when he was sent back by Dushmantha Chameera for 118. His stunning knock came off just 43 balls and contained 12 fours and 10 sixes.
Rohit’s departure in the 13th over when the score was 165 did not affect India’s momentum as Rahul took charge from there on and slammed 89 off just 49 with the help of five fours and eight sixes before being dismissed by Nuwan Pradeep. Dhoni also played a handy knock as India posted their highest-ever T20I total.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the innings:

For all the exotic big hitting by Rohit, Rahul and Dhoni, the Lankan bowling frankly has been poor. Very poor

Tamils of Sri Lanka were probably right demanding a separate nation

Gee, this KL Rahul is fun to watch. Two sensational contrasting shots off Chameera. A crisp off-drive and an on the rise into the 2nd tier.

Everytime you think you have seen it all, you see something incredible. Today, Rohit Sharma has shown us that. I admit I am gasping.

Man, KL Rahul, the array of shots that you have played today have been absolutely stunning! What batting and a fine innings, deprived of a century, nevertheless a brilliant knock! #INDvSL

Unleashed Rohit was built for T20s. If he's figured that out the whole world is screwed.

Discounting the 4s and 6s, Rohit Sharma has scored 9 runs off 16 balls. Rather disappointing strike rate.
