India continue to experiment

As a result, they have carried on with their experimenting approach against West Indies. There were speculations that BCCI might rest Rohit Sharma, who has been in devastating form with the bat. Rohit, who led India in the Bangladesh series in the absence of Virat Kohli, have played continuous cricket in 2019. But the selectors decided otherwise to keep him in the squad for the West Indies series.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli has slotted back to take the leadership role. He will bat at three with the management relying on their incumbent pair – Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. The India skipper and Shreyas Iyer will continue to shoulder the responsibilities in the middle-order followed by some hard-hitters including all-rounder Shivam Dube, who will be keen to showcase his skills with the bat.

Deepak Chahar, who hogged the limelight for his hat-trick against Bangladesh will continue to lead the pace unit. The fast bowlers from Rajasthan will have to keep up the excellent work to seal his place in the playing XI even when Jasprit Bumrah returns to the side.

The T20I squad also witnessed the return of Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar after a long time. Kuldeep, who has been struggling with his form has returned to the squad while Kumar makes a return from after a long injury lay-off.

While there lie dark clouds over the future of the first T20I between India and West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on December 6, Thiruvananthapuram and Hyderabad will host the second and third match of the series on December 8 and 11 before moving onto the ODIs.
