It took only a little more than ten overs on the third day for India to wrap up the Bangladesh tail to record their fourth consecutive innings victory at home. The first day and night tumbled plenty of records including India’s unbeaten run in the World Test Championship, topping the table with 360 points. The victory earned India their seventh consecutive series win in red-ball cricket.

Bangladesh endured an insipid show with the bat.

Kolkata swooned itself entirely over the last three days as the atmosphere provided the perfect setting for the home side to stand out victorious in their inaugural day and night Test. The Indian bowlers yet again proved far too formidable for an inexperienced Bangladesh side right from the outset. Mushfiqur Rahim was the only hurdle the hosts needed to cross to thrash the Tigers.

Leading from the front through Virat Kohli’s century, India acquired a lead of 241 runs, declaring at 347 for the loss of nine wickets on the second day. The second innings proved to be another carbon copy of the first innings as the tourists lost their early four wickets without much grit from the top-order. Despite the crumble, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah scored at a brisk rate. Halfway through the 18th over, Mahmudullah departed out of the park, owing to a hamstring injury.

Indian captain led the way with a century.

Bangladesh had a satisfactory outing with the ball.

Mushfiqur Rahim takes the fight all alone to India:

Rahim resisted the best he could; however, the Indian bowlers kept chipping away to leave Bangladesh at 152-6. Umesh Yadav struck in the third over of the day to send Ebadat Hossain back to the pavilion. Rahim collected two boundaries off Ravindra Jadeja in the 39th over to signal himself loosening. His over-ambitiousness got the better off him in the subsequent over as he sliced a slower delivery off Umesh Yadav to Ravindra Jadeja at cover for a fighting knock of 74.

With Mahmudullah not fit enough to bat, Umesh Yadav, picked his fifth and the last wicket in the 42nd over to end the tourists’ resistance. Ishant Sharma received the man of the match for taking nine wickets in the match and the man of the series for 12 scalps. The men in blue’s next assignment is against the Windies with whom they will play the first of the three T20 internationals on 6th of December in Hyderabad.
