Diana Edulji, one of the members of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), has dramatically turned down Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) offer to honour her with the lifetime achievement award.
The former India women’s team captain Diana stated that it would be inappropriate for her to accept the recognition. She pointed out that she is still holding a chair as a CoA member.
Diana announced her decision soon after the BCCI publicly released the list of recipients.
The only lady member of the CoA, Edulji was set to be bestowed with the prestigious award. Interestingly, ahead of her ex-teammates Shubhangi Kulkarni and Sudha Shah.
Moreover, with Edulji now refusing to accept the award, Sudha will now receive the award, the board announced.
Diana, Kulkarni, and Shah were part of the playing XI that played the first-ever Test match for India women in 1976.

On the other hand, legendary posthumously Pankaj Roy is set to be conferred with the CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for 2016-17. Anshuman Gaekwad will receive the same award for 2017-18.

“I have learnt that the BCCI awards committee (consisting of office bearers of the BCCI and Mr. N Ram) has conferred the award on me. Neither me, nor any other member of the Hon’ble Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) were part of this awards committee,” Diana said in her statement.

Diana further insisted that she had already made it clear last year about her decision of not receiving the award while being a CoA member.
Diana Edulji was part of the panel last year. The committee picked Shantha Rangaswamy as the first woman cricketer – to get a special lifetime award.
“However, since I am a member of the Hon’ble Supreme Court appointed committee of administrators of the BCCI, I do not think it is appropriate for me to accept this honour at this juncture. I have discussed my decision with my family, friends, and well-wishers who wholeheartedly support my decision not to accept the award during my tenure as a member of the CoA,” Diana added.
In fact, I had made my decision very clear last year as well when my name was suggested for this honour. Nevertheless, I would like to thank the members of the BCCI awards committee for considering me worthy of this prestigious honour,” she concluded.
