Former India international, Mohinder Amarnath has cited Shikhar Dhawan’s form as the only reason of worry for India going into the ODI series, starting on July 12 (Thursday).
Meanwhile, Dhawan struggled to get going despite India winning the T20I series 2-1. The southpaw scored 4, 10 and five in the three matches and that seems to be the flaw in the Indian team.
Amarnath, in his column in TOI, admitted he is confident India will carry this form in the ODIs. He also expressed his delight in watching different players stepping up in different games. Furthermore, he also talked highly of Rohit Sharma stating that if you the technique, you can perform anywhere.
“It’s been a good beginning for the Indian team. I’m sure they will carry this form into the coming ODIs as well. It’s been good to see different players performing well over the three T20s. Of course, Rohit Sharma was absolutely brilliant in the last match, showing that it doesn’t matter where you play; all it takes is technique and temperament and the ability to assess the situation at the right time and plan the innings accordingly,” Amarnath wrote.
While Rohit hammered an unbeaten century in the series-decided, Hardik Pandya also chipped in with the all-round show.
Dhawan’s form only worry
Amarnath noted Dhawan’s form is the only reason for worry for the visitors ahead of the ODIs. He also expressed his surprise not seeing Kuldeep Yadav in the last game.
“The only worry, perhaps, is Shikhar’s form, but I’m sure he will come good. He needs a little time to settle in and the 50-over format will help him with that. India will need to rely more on their pacers in England. The spinners will play a part in this series – they played well in the T20s with a case in point being Chahal who bowled a good line and length. I was surprised that Kuldeep was left out of the last game,” he added.
In conclusion, Amarnath admitted it would be interesting to see what combination India opts for the ODIs. He also said the seamers would be the key with the spinners chipping in.
