At the stroke of lunch, South Africa has been bundled out for 130 in 41.2 overs after India bowlers bagged wickets at regular intervals to make the fourth morning of the first Test in Cape Town far more interesting with the brilliant bowling and ground fielding.
India requires 208 to win to lead the four-match series 1-0.
The flurry of wickets brought India right into the game which saw the Proteas going into the shell on a surface which has a lot on offer for the bowler after remaining under covers on Sunday due to the inclement weather.
For India, fast bowlers were on song as Mohammad Shami and debutant Jasprit Bumrah, who bagged three wickets which further saw Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked the wicket of Keshav Maharaj and Morne Morkel.
AB de Villiers was the last to go when he was caught right at the boundary line by Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the bowling of debutant Jasprit Bumrah, as he finished his figures with three for 39 in 11.2 overs.
Dale Steyn was forced to come to the bat after being ruled out due to the heel injury, and he remained not out after facing four balls.
Nightwatchman Kagiso Rabada (5 off 33) was the second to be dismissed by Shami early morning after skipper Virat Kohli completed a simple catch.
South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis walked out of the ground after facing five balls after being shaken by the awkward bounce Bumrah got off the surface.
Wicketkeeper-batsman returned to the pavilion after getting inside edge on the bowling of Bumrah, as Vernon Philander was trapped in front of the stumps by Shami for naught.
The right-handed batsman de Villiers was the top-scorer for South Africa as he scored 35 off 50 balls which shows how well the visitors has bowled on the Newlands surface.
The Proteas added just 65 runs which saw them losing eight wickets in 21.2 overs.
Maharaj scored 15 off 21 balls before faint edge settled into the gloves of gloveman Wriddhiman Saha, before taking the catch of Morne Morkel (2 off 4) to claim a tenth coach of the Test match.
Earlier, after the day three was washed out due to the persistent rain, South Africa had a dismal start, as Hashim Amla was the first to go when Rohit Sharma completed a brilliant low catch on the bowling of Mohammad Shami.
In the morning session, the third-wicket added just a run when the wicket came in the very second over of the morning.
