After a bunch of Indian cricketers started their individual training session at their hometown it was reported that a national camp might be held at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, the reports have been rubbished by an official, who said that their will no training camp before IPL 2020.
The official has said that there in no official imitation from the cricket board as of now at a time when players have started to prepare for the IPL 2020. The official also said that there is no logic in holding a training camp at this point of time as players are preparing for a entirely different format.
“There were media reports that camp will start from August 18 and go on till September 4 but we have no formal intimation from the BCCI till now,” a GCA official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
“In any case, where is the logic of doing a red ball camp before IPL when they are playing a completely different format,” a senior IPL franchise official said.
The IPL 2020 will be played in UAE between September and November. However, the cricket board is still to get a clearance from the Indian government as the international border is closed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic situation.
Rishabh Pant was the latest to begin training for the IPL 2020, joining a list of players like Rohit Sharma, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami. It has been reported that CSK will be one of the first teams to depart for IPL 2020.
