Australia stunned India by 4 wickets in the fourth ODI to draw level in the five-match series.  Batting first, India rode on Shikhar Dhawan’s career-best 143 and Rohit Sharma’s 95 to post an imposing total of 358 for 9. However, it turned out to be too less in the end as Australia chased down the total inside 48 overs with Ashton Turner’s unbeaten 84 leading the charge.

2. R0hit Sharma completed his 3000 ODI runs in India and became the joint-fastest to score 3000 ODI runs in home country. He took 57 innings to achieve the feat with South Africa’s Hashim Amla also taking as many innings to reach the milestone in his country. Virat Kohli previously held the record for India after reaching the milestone in 63 innings.

3. Usman Khawaja (91) and Peter Handscomb (117) added 192 runs for the third wicket which is now the highest by a pair for the third wicket against India in India surpassing 181 between Ken Rutherford and Adam Parore in Baroda in 1994. It is also the second highest third-wicket partnership in a run chase against India after 242 by Steve Smith and George Bailey in Perth in 2016.

4.  This is the 27th time India scored more than 350 in ODIs – the joint most for a team alongside South Africa. It was the 24th instance of them doing so batting first.

5. This was the first time since the 2012/13 series against Pakistan that India lost two successive ODIs at home in the same series.

6. Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 143, registered his highest individual score in ODIs surpassing 137 he made against South Africa at the MCG in World Cup 2015. This was also his first century in 18 innings which is the joint longest such barren stretch for him in ODIs. He went through 17 successive innings without a century between December 2013 and October 2014.

7. Dhawan and Rohit added 193 runs for the first wicket to better their own record of highest opening stand in ODIs against Australia. They had added 178 against Australia in Nagpur in 2013. In the same series, they had added 176 in Jaipur for the opening wicket. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly are fourth in the list for their 175-run stand in the Kanpur ODI in 1998.

8. Dhawan and Rohit also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag to become the second most successful pair for India. Tendulkar and Sehwag had scored 4387 runs while the current pair has so far amassed 4,571 runs.  Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly lead the list with 8227 runs.

9. Rohit has now hit 218 sixes in ODIs  – the most by a player for India. He went past MS Dhoni’s tally of 217 maximums.
