On Friday, BCCI announced their squad for the ODI series against Australia. All the major players have been asked to play the game without any rest, as this is their final ODI series ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019. Meanwhile, they have made quite a few interesting inclusions and exclusions. Regarding the same, we figured out 5 players who were ignored in the selection of the ODI squad.

Here are they:

5. Shubman Gill:

The young lad was expected to get a decent run in the ODI format of the game. However, it wasn’t the case, as they called back KL Rahul in the side. Gill was given a couple of chances in absence of Virat Kohli against New Zealand. But, he failed to make the most of the opportunity, as Trent Boult was brilliant with the ball and conditions were also tough.

However, BCCI hasn’t given him any more chances and left him straightaway. Perhaps, they made up their mind to keep the youngster away from the ICC World Cup 2019. It is unfortunate for the youngster, as he would have made the opportunity count in Indian conditions.

4. Ajinkya Rahane:

The right-handed batsman was expected to make a return to the side in the ODI series against Australia. For the same, he has been asked to play India A, where he opened the innings and knocked brilliant scores to his name. However, he has been ignored, as they kept their faith on KL Rahul, who scored a decent knock against England Lions.

Recently, the chairman of a selection panel MSK Prasad quoted that Ajinkya Rahane is in their scheme of plans for ICC World Cup 2019. But, the latest selection seems like they aren’t going to give the nod for the experienced campaigner anymore.

3. Khaleel Ahmed:

The left-handed bowler was expected to be the prospect that India is looking for. But, the recently concluded Kiwis tour might have made the selectors think once again. Despite being the left-hander, he has been ignored for the series against Australia. In between, Siddharth Kaul gets the nod in absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Perhaps, they have ignored him for the side, as Mohammad Shami delivered the required goods in the recent. With Jasprit Bumrah also back in the side, the way for Khaleel Ahmed looks tough.

2. Ravindra Jadeja:

Perhaps, Ravindra Jadeja is one of the unluckiest cricketers at the moment in Indian National Cricket Team. He has done well enough in all sections of the game and also collected trophies for the same. He is an asset in the fielding department as well. But, unfortunately, selectors once again ignored him.

The Indian selection panel got Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav in their basket as the first-choice spinners. In the all-rounder category, Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar are blocking the way of Ravindra Jadeja to make a return.

1. Dinesh Karthik:

Well, can there be any big decision than leaving out Dinesh Karthik from the current squad? He has done brilliantly in the recent past with the match-finishing knocks in Australia. But, still, he has been ignored from the team, as they wanted to try out Rishabh Pant in the ODI format as well.

The lack of runs in New Zealand might have pushed selectors to take the call. The performance of Rishabh Pant in the 5-match ODI series will see whether Dinesh Karthik can make into the ICC World Cup 2019 or not.
