2019 couldn’t have begun on a better note for the India National Cricket Team. First, they defeated Australia in the SCG Test to win the Border-Gavaskar trophy (2-1). Later, India attained their first-ever bilateral ODI series on the Australian soil. Now, on their tour to New Zealand for the limited-overs series; the Men in Blue had tasted victory in the five-match ODIs, making it 3-0 with two games remaining. However, veteran India spinner, Harbhajan Singh lauds the team. He said despite the Kiwis being a better team than Australia, India had done exceptionally well to beat them at home.
India thumps NZ at the Bay Oval
On Monday, Virat Kohli-led team won the contest by seven wickets at the Bay Oval. After the Kiwis had won the toss, they elected to bat first. The story across three games didn’t change, as the openers failed to leave any impact yet again.
With Kane Williamson not being among runs, the worries only mounted on the hosts. Meanwhile, Ross Taylor showed his veteran skills by playing an impressive knock of 93 runs; supporting him was the wicketkeeper-batsman, Tom Latham, who hit 51 runs. However, New Zealand couldn’t keep the pace going and lost wickets in a cluster later on. For India, Mohammed Shami took three wickets.
India has been the best-chasing team in a long time now. Proving the same, they didn’t come across any hiccups; thus winning the match with seven wickets in hand. Rohit Sharma and the skipper Kohli scored respective fifties, while Rayudu hit an unbeaten 40.
It is great to see India play – Harbhajan
Bhaji, speaking to India Today shared high praise for the Indian team. He added Virat must be delighted with the way the side had conducted themselves on the field. Furthermore, he pressed on the fact that the visitors have played some excellent cricket throughout.
“This current New Zealand is definitely a better team than Australia but don’t forget how well India played. Sometimes, we look to the other teams play well and we forget how good our own team is and that no team can stand in front of our team. It is great to see the way our team is playing. Everyone is in form, Harbhajan said. “New Zealand is a good team but India were better,” he added.
