Of late, much to one’s surprise, short-runs are making headlines, especially, in the Indian games. First,it was Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who escaped a danger of being out when he failed to reach the crease to complete his run at the end of an over. Now, it is Hardik Pandya, who made a mistake to lose one run for his side in the final ODI of the series against Kiwis at Wellington.

It was in the 49th over of the game when Neesham bowled a superb yorker to Hardik Pandya. The stroke-maker, who is on a song with the bat was successful in knocking it to the mid-wicket area. Both the players in the middle are quick in putting pressure on the field to seal an extra-run.

Everything seemed good until the replay showed that Hardik Pandya missed touching the ground at another end during the completion of his first run. He lost grip on his bat while returning back. What came as a surprise was the umpire failed to notice it.

Meanwhile, after the replays, Kiwis players kept the pressure on the umpires, who decided to cut short the run for Hardik Pandya. It was a surprise call, as things like those haven’t been considered after watching the replays before.

Harsha Bhogle isn’t impressed:

Meanwhile, the classic commentator Harsha Bhogle isn’t impressed with the call. If that was the case, Bhogle wants umpires to overturn their calls on wides and no-balls after watching the big screens in the stadiums.

Digging into his tweet, it read ”f you want to review a short run based on a fielder’s demand after the replay has been shown, surely you can review a wide ball if a batsman claims it after the replay!!”

Coming to the match, Hardik Pandya has stood like a warrior to smash Kiwis bowlers all over the park. He knocked a blistering 45 runs off just 22 balls to push India to a moderate total on the board.
