After a thumping win in the second T20I, India were brought to the ground by South Africa, who produced an outstanding effort to end the series 1-1 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Men in Blues failed to replicate their effort completely and will have to ponder their combinations in the coming games.

Skipper Virat Kohli surprised one and all after electing to bat first at Chinnaswamy. The Indian batters failed to understand the wicket and gave away their wickets except for Shikhar Dhawan. The middle-order failed to step up but the credit goes to South African bowlers to restrict India to 134 before chasing it down with nine wickets in hand.

The management will have tough questions to answer ahead of the next series against Bangladesh and look to hit the right combinations to bounce back.

Here is the players rating for the Indian National Cricket Team for the three-match Twenty 20 International series against South Africa:

Rohit Sharma came into this series on the back of the swashbuckling form in the World Cup and the series against West Indies. But the India opener had a poor outing against South Africa managing to score only 21 runs from two outings.

The Mumbai-born opener will hope to bounce back in style in the next series against Bangladesh.

SHIKHAR DHAWAN (7/10)

Shikhar Dhawan had a poor outing against West Indies and had to return to List A cricket to get his form back. The southpaw bounced back in style in the series against the Proteas with scores 30+ scores in both the outings.

However, Dhawan will curse himself for not capitalising on the starts and put India in good stead and set the tone for the batters to follow.

VIRAT KOHLI (6.5/10)

India skipper Virat Kohli has once again lead the team from the front. He scored a valiant unbeaten knock of 72 runs to help India chase down the target convincingly and take a 1-0 unassailable lead in the second encounter.

But Kohli failed to keep his form going in the second game getting out cheaply for only nine runs. It was a rare failure from the India skipper, who will wish to bounce back in the next series.

Shreyas Iyer has settled the debates in the middle-order with his consistent scores since the West Indies series. He has batted with authority and looks to have settled all the debates in the wobbly middle-order.

Iyer played a good hand alongside Virat Kohli in the first match but failed to use the opportunity in the second game. The Mumbai cricketer will hope to come back strong in the next series against Bangladesh.

RISHABH PANT (3/10)

Rishabh Pant has been under tremendous pressure failing to live up to the expectations. He has struggled to offer maturity and has thrown away his wickets in crucial situations.

The young wicket-keeper batsman needs to bounce back off the blocks strongly to retain his place in the playing XI in the series’ to follow.

HARDIK PANDYA (4/10)

Hardik Pandya returned to action after taking a break in the series against West Indies. He looked in fine rhythm with the ball and did a fine job as the third seamer in the first match.

The dynamic all-rounder got the opportunity to help his side with the bat but failed to step up when needed. Pandya will hope to bounce back in the matches to follow.

Krunal Pandya has had limited opportunities to showcase his skills in the three-match series against South Africa. However, the all-rounder has impressed in whatever chances has come his way since making his international debut.

Pandya will hope to keep up his spectacular run and cement his place in the playing XI leading to the World T20 in Australia next year.

Washington Sundar has grown from strength to strength as an off-spinner for the powerplays in the shortest format of the game. The cricketer from Tamil Nadu focuses on his job and likes to keep things simple.

The young cricketer was relatively economical in the two matches he played; however, failed to provide breakthroughs. Sundar will have to work hard and cement his place in the playing XI as India look to settle combinations for the World T20.

RAVINDRA JADEJA (4/10)

Ravindra Jadeja has been India’s most utility player in the last few years. He has the ability to contribute to all the departments and has left an impression on whatever opportunities that have come his way.

The Saurashtra all-rounder had a good outing in the series and was economical with the ball. He also made a valuable contribution in the third and the final T20 with the bat.

Deepak Chahar has lived up to the expectations in the shortest format of the game. Since his debut, the fast bowler has done a great job both with the new ball and in the deaths.

He has the ability to hit the right areas and will give the management the luxury of tinkering the playing XI and keep the fast bowlers fit with the World T20 in mind.

Navdeep Saini. Credit: BCCI

Navdeep Saini burst onto the scene on the back of some consistent efforts in the domestic circuits. He rang eyeballs with his pace over 140 kmph.  Saini had an outstanding debut in West Indies picking wickets with both the new ball and in the death.

However, the young cricketer had a poor outing in the recently concluded series going for too many runs. Saini needs to bounce back strongly and live up to the trust shown by the selectors.
