Indian national cricket team ended 2019 on a good note with a limited-overs series win over West Indies. Now, they are all geared up for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka and the first match is scheduled to be played at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on January 5 (Sunday). Virat Kohli and Co have been poor as far as the shortest format is concerned.

They are placed fifth in the ICC T20I rankings whereas Sri Lanka are ranked seventh. However, the upcoming series provides a perfect opportunity for the hosts to improve their rankings. Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami have been rest for the series and will return for Australia ODIs at home. Jasprit Bumrah and Shikhar Dhawan are back with a bang and will be looking forward to making their presence count on the pitch.

Meanwhile, India skipper Virat Kohli is all set to create a world record in the shortest format. The run-machine will be on the verge of unlocking massive T20I world record when he takes the field on Sunday. He just needs one more run to go past his partner-in-crime Rohit Sharma to become the highest run-scorer in this format. As of now, both the stalwarts are on the top spot with 2,633 runs.

Having said that Rohit Sharma has been rested and hence he will be a part of the team, Virat Kohli gets a great opportunity to extend the gap and cement his position at the top of the highest run-scorers list. The Indian skipper was in a rich vein of form during the T20I series against West Indies last month. He hit the peak performance when he scored 94 off 50 in the first T20I and helped his side ace a huge run chase of 208.

He continued his form in T20I decider where he smashed an unbeaten 70 off just 29 and steered India’s total to 240/3 in 20 overs, and also helping his side in registering a series win over the tourists.
