India vs West Indies 2018: Out Of Form KL Rahul On Verge Of Creating Dubious Record
KL Rahul will be under immense pressure to deliver when India take on West Indies in the second and last Test of the series. The opening batsman’s inconsistency drawn widespread criticism.
Things have not gone well for Rahul since the tour of England. Rahul began his tour of England on a perfect note. In the first T20I, he slammed a stunning tone to guide India to a comprehensive win. However, things did not go down well for Rahul since then.
In the ODIs, he scored 9 and 0 before being dropped. The poor form continued in Tests too. In the series-opener, he scored 4 and 13. In the second game at Lord’s, he managed 8 and 10. He looked good at Trent Bridge but threw away the starts, thus scoring 23 and 36.
And his following three knocks yielded scores of 19, 0 37. Another poor outing would have surely put his spot in the Test team in doubt. However, Rahul made the most of his last opportunity and slammed a century to prove his worth.
But the right-hander failed to make the most of the form as he was out for a duck in the first Test against West Indies.
And now Rahul is on the verge of creating a dubious record. He now has the joint-most number of ducks among batsmen at top order (1-3 position) in 2018 along with Bangladesh’s Mominul Haque. Rahul has three ducks to his name in the ongoing year. In addition, he was dismissed for single-digit score on 6 occasions. On 8 occasions, he was dismissed at 10 or below score in 16 innings.
His tally of 8 innings with 10 or below scores this year is the joint-worst among the batters at to No 3 position in 2018 – along with Dean Elgar of South Africa who has 8 instances in 18 innings.
Rahul will be desperate to turn things around when the second Test gets underway on October 12. Moreover, a poor performance in the upcoming game could also hurt his chances for the tour of Australia.
