Team India will make a comeback to the ODI format after four months when Men in Blue host West Indies in the first ODI of the three-match series in Chennai on Sunday. The home team ended up with an upper hand the first leg and won the T20I series 2-1. After a dominant win in the opening T20I, India failed to defend a total of 170 in the 2nd T20I but Virat Kohli and co piled up 240/3 in the decider, which proved to be too much for the visitors.

Unlike T20Is, India are expected to completely dominate the ODIs and will be favourite to whitewash West Indies. Although the bowling department looks a bit weak in the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. Bhuvneshwar has been replaced by Shardul Thakur for the ODIs while Bumrah has been out of action for three months now.

Mayank Agarwal, who replaced Shikhar Dhawan for the ODI series, is unlikely to be included in the playing XI as KL Rahul will move up in the batting order. With the pitch assisting spinners, Shardul might have to wait for his chance. A debut for Shivam Dube in Chennai is also unlikely.

For West Indies, the comeback of Shai Hope and Roston Chase will bolster their squad but will their inclusion make a difference? Hope has been in exceptional form of late and not to forget, he scored 250 runs at 62.50 in five matches last year against India. The right-handed batsman has been the man-in-form for the Kieron Pollard and co.

Weather forecast –

Hailstorm lashed out on past two days in Chennai but the conditions are expected to be different on Sunday. There will be intermittent clouds at 2 PM.  The weather will be clear in the evening. Still, rain can play a part during the contest.
