The head coach of the Delhi Capitals Ricky Ponting believes the upcoming auction will fetch huge deals for the all-rounders. Unlike every season, the upcoming auction will see a bunch of all-rounders coming under the auction hammer. The likes of Pat Cummins, James Neesham, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh are the few swashbuckling all-rounders available during the auction time.

As far as Delhi Capitals is concerned, the team focus will be on the overseas fast bowlers. Ricky Ponting has stated that a lot of attention will be on “overseas fast bowlers” in next week’s IPL auction as the franchise weighed over the potential targets. He also admitted that anything could happen during the auction with all the franchises coming up with the different set of plans.

Unpredictable always happen – Ricky Ponting

Delhi Capitals will go into the December 19 auction in Kolkata with a purse of Rs 27.85 crore and 11 available slots, including five overseas players. They will be one of the active bidders during the Auction. As the batting lineup is pretty much filled with the star batsmen, they might go for all-rounders and fast bowlers.

“We’ve had several discussions over the last few months, and have put in a lot of time and effort to make sure that we’re well prepared,” Ponting said as per India Today. You can do all the planning in the world, but at the auction table, the unpredictable always happens.”

“There’s going to be a lot of focus and attention on fast bowlers, overseas ones in particular. Going into the auction you have to be very specific about the kind of players you need. For instance, we’ve got three openers, so we don’t need to look for one. You need to identify the problem areas in your starting eleven, and essentially plug the gaps,” Ricky Ponting said.

Pat Cummins could go for big money –

Further, Ricky Ponting predicted that the all-rounders will fetch huge deals during the auction. He felt that Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins, Chris Woakes and Mitchell Marsh would attract the massive bids.

“Pat Cummins could go for big money, as could Chris Woakes. All-rounders are always interesting in my opinion. Players like Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Marsh, Jimmy Neesham, Colin de Grandhomme could all be big picks.”
