Even before the start of the first Test against world number one India, West Indies have suffered a big blow as their allrounder Keemo Paul has been ruled out of the match due to an ankle injury. He has been replaced by Miguel Cummins in the squad. Keemo Paul, meanwhile, will remain with the team in Antigua to continue his rehabilitation.

Cummins had made his debut against India only when the latter toured West Indies in 2016. After a not-so-impressive debut, he picked up a six-wicket haul in the second innings of his second outing. Playing for West Indies A, Cummins recently picked up six wickets in the two unofficial Tests against India A.

“With Keemo ruled out for this match, it’s good to have someone with Miguel’s quality back in the squad, as he brings experience to the team,” Windies interim head coach Floyd Reifer said.

“Watching him in the last A Team series against India A and the training sessions his lengths have improved. He’s a very hard worker and a wicket-taker. I’m sure, if given the opportunity to play, he will make a valuable contribution in our bid to win this series,” he added.

India, who are currently the top-ranked Test side, will be the firm favourites for the upcoming game. The Virat Kohli-led side are yet to lose a single game on this tour, having won the T20Is and ODIs 3-0 and 2-0 respectively. Recent history is also in India’s favour. West Indies have not won a series againstIndia since 2002.

India’s record in recent times is really dominating. India has the best win-loss ratio and winning percentage in Test cricket since 2016. They won 23 and lost just 8 of the 38 Tests they have played in this period.

India also have the best win-loss ratio in terms of series winning 8 of the 10 they played in the period.  During this period, India beat New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Australia, England, West Indies and Bangladesh to assert their authority. Earlier this year, India also won their maiden Test series on the Australian soil.
