Team India put in yet another clinical display with both bat and ball as they beat Windies by nine wickets at Thiruvananthapuram to clinch the five-match series 3-1.

Meanwhile, under overcast skies, on a sticky pitch, and with dew expected later, Jason Holder’s decision to bat against an inspired Indian side was akin to shooting himself in the foot. The hosts took full advantage of the situation to bowl out Windies for 104, their lowest ODI total against India.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar started off the proceedings dismissing Keiron Powell, who edged to MS Dhoni in the first over. Jasprit Bumrah soon joined the party as he removed Windies’ only hope Shai Hope. Two-down very early, Marlon Samuels’s uninspired struggle at the top brought India more hope until the 37-year-old unleashed himself with a six and a four in Khaleel Ahmed’s first over.

However, the introduction of Ravindra Jadeja on a pitch with some moisture brought more trouble for the Windies.

The left-arm spinner struck twice in his first spell, removing an attacking Samuels and then Shimron Hetmyer to leave the visitors reeling. He came back again, in the end, to pick two more to rattle the Caribbeans for 104 runs.

The chase looked like a cakewalk for India with their star batter in prime form. However, against the run of play, Oshanee Thomas cleaned up Shikhar Dhawan’s woodwork in the second over of the chase. Since then, two inform batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma looked in absolute control of things as they crossed the fifty-run mark with ease.

With 56 for one at the end of the first ten overs, India were in line to pocket the match quite convincingly. Rohit Sharma was the aggressor of the duo as he brought his fifty in just 45 balls. They continued their dominance as India cruised passed victory in just 14.5 overs with Rohit (63*) and Virat (33) at the crease.
