Former England opener Nick Compton has questioned India’s batting strength without the services of their skipper Virat Kohli. The talisman right-hander has been super consistent as he has scored a truckload of runs in the recent past. Kohli had completed the hat-trick of hundreds in the three matches of ongoing series against Windies. However, Kohli was the lone warrior in the last two ODIs.

Virat Kohli had scored a fine hundred in the first match of the series. He also went on to score an unbeaten 157 in the second ODI of the series. However, that match ended in a tie as Windies made a fine comeback.

Furthermore, Kohli backed this performance with another good show in the third ODI at Pune. The Indian linchpin scored another century in the previous match but could not find support at the other end. Thus, Kohli’s hundred went in vain as India lost the match by 43 runs.

Subsequently, India’s middle order has not been delivering the goods for the team. In fact, India’s top three batsmen Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Kohli have done the bulk of the scoring.
Meanwhile, Kohli was also the lone warrior on the tour of England. The right-hander scored 593 runs in the five-match Test match series. However, Kohli could not find the same kind of support from other batsmen. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara scored on odd occasions but India’s batting was not consistent enough.

Therefore, India is heavily dependent on the shoulders of their skipper Kohli to do the most of the scoring.
Nick Compton took to his Twitter account to share his thoughts. The post read as, “Virat Kohli is a great player – of that there is no doubt – his personality gets the best out of himself, however, can the same be said of his teammates? I’m not convinced.”
