Prithvi Shaw became the 293rd cricketer to make his Test debut for India, as he was handed his cap in the first game of the two-match series against the Windies in Rajkot on Thursday.

Shaw – 293rd cricketer to debut for India in Tests

Earlier in the day, Indian skipper, Virat Kohli elected to bat first after winning the toss. However, India lost the first wicket in KL Rahul in the first over itself. The right-handed batsman played four balls and didn’t score a single run. After that, Prithvi Shar and Cheteshwar Puraja took charge and started scoring runs at will. In a while, the debutant completed his half-century from 56 balls smashing seven boundaries.

However, Shaw-led India lifted to the U-19 World Cup title in 2018. As a skipper, he scored 261 runs in six matches and became the highest run-scorer among Indian captains in the tournament’s history. He also surpassed Unmukt Chand’s 246 runs in the 2012 World Cup. In addition to that, at the age of  17 years and 320 days, Prithvi Shaw became the second youngest player to score a three-figure mark in the Duleep Trophy with the record once again belonging to Sachin Tendulkar.

However, the 18-year-old opened his batting with KL Rahul, and he became the second youngest batsman to make his debut for India since Sachin Tendulkar. He is looking good with experienced Pujara, and the duo also completed their 100+ partnership for the second wicket against the Windies.
