Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar showered high praise for young Test batsmen Prithvi Shaw, who has impressed with his spectacular batting since his debut.

Meanwhile, Shaw backed his debut century with a swashbuckling knock of 70 runs. He provided India with a good start taking the attack to the opposition. Furthermore, Prithvi Shaw hammered 11 fours and one six in his 53-ball 70 runs knock.

Speaking about the knock, Sunil Gavaskar spoke highly of the talented young batsmen from Mumbai. He stated that Shaw is the person to take Indian cricket forward in the next five years despite stating that he can be a bit vulnerable in Australia.

“Prithvi Shaw is the person to take Indian cricket forward in the next 5-10 years. Australia is certainly going to be slightly different, as he has this tendency to open the face of the bat when he plays on the back foot. On bouncier pitches, he might be a bit vulnerable in the gully, third man area,” Sunil Gavaskar said to India Today.

Furthermore, the former cricketer turned commentator noted that Prithvi Shaw eyes centuries. Gavaskar also admitted that Prithvi Shaw’s punches of the back foot are a delightful sight to watch.

“Prithvi is someone who thinks centuries, you need such players who want centuries. He is a young man and with experience, he will pace the innings and not be in a rush to reach a landmark. But the way he was playing of the back foot and even defending off the back foot, that is a very encouraging sight,” Sunil Gavaskar concluded.

Meanwhile, India will hope to take a significant lead in the first essay in reply to Windies total of 311 runs.
