The 18 years old Prithvi Shaw, who made his first international century on his Test debut is likely to open with Rohit Sharma during the ODI series against Windies starting from October 21. Meanwhile, after the review meeting with the team management last week, the selectors are trying to include new faces before next year’s World Cup.

Moreover, they are also trying to rotate the senior players so that they can stay fresh. Thus, it won’t be a surprise if Prithvi Shaw gets a nod ahead to make his ODI debut. However, the discussions are still going about the possibility of giving Shaw a game.

Moreover, MSK Prasad-led committee has already declared the team for the first two ODI against Windies. There might be a possibility that the management can try out Prithvi Shaw in the remaining games.

Indian Skipper Virat Kohli, coach Ravi Shastri, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane and the selectors have attended the review meeting.

“With an eye to the World Cup, the main focus was how to rotate players. In fact, more than rotation, it would be more about how to save our key players. That’s why you would see the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Mohammad Shami in and out of the squad, not playing regularly. The players who are important for all formats will be adequately taken care of. Going ahead also, these things will keep happening.” a source, who was privy to the meeting told The Indian Express.

India’s regular openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan recently had a fine Asia Cup 2018. It is evident that they will remain the first-choice pair for the team. Furthermore, the management is keen on trying out Prithvi Shaw to give themselves more options.

India Squad (first two games): Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni (wicket-keeper), Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed, Umesh Yadav.
