India vs Windies 2018: Sunil Gavaskar Blasts Selectors for Resting Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah

The squad for the Windies series has raised many eyebrows. Surprisingly, this time, the BCCI selectors opted to give rest to the bowling department which usually happened with the batting department in the past. However, it is a decent call with Australian tour ahead and also a perfect chance for the young bowlers. Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar isn’t impressed with resting Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

However, team India picked Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj for the Windies series alongside Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami. Meanwhile, the regular skipper, Virat Kohli is also back in action after being rested for Asia Cup 2018.

India’s former great Sunil Gavaskar is surprised with the call to relax the experienced duo in the Indian bowling ranks. The legendary cricketer feels BCCI has given less importance to Test cricket which isn’t a good one.

Gavaskar added if the break has to be given to a particular player, he wants it to get it done in the limited-overs series. However, he agrees that it is the excellent opportunity for the youngsters to cement their position in the team.

“India resting both Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah is a surprise, for it shows that Test matches don’t seem to matter for the selectors. Were both the bowlers asked if they wanted a break?” Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his column to Times of India.

”If a break has to be given do that in the limited overs internationals, but not Test cricket. For if Test cricket is to survive it needs the best players available all the time. Their absence gives a chance for Shardul Thakur and Mohammad Siraj. It is best chance to show what they are capable of and try and cement their places for the tour to Australia,” he added.

However, it seems like Sunil Gavaskar has a valid point in playing the best players in the Test cricket and resting in the limited overs. But, the selectors might have used this series to Test the players for the Australian tour.
