India dominated the first session of the first Test match against the Windies at Rajkot. The hosts lost only one wicket and scored 133 runs in the opening session. Prithvi Shaw impressed on his maiden outing at the Test arena as he scored a fine fifty on his debut. The prodigy batsman batted in the topmost gear as he showed all the skills in his armory.
Shaw was well accompanied by experienced batsman Cheteshwar Pujara. As expected Pujara took his own time in the initial stages of his innings and subsequently changed gears after setting his eye in. The Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium is Pujara’s home ground and he is familiar with the conditions.

Shaw played some delightful strokes on his debut.
In fact, as there were hot and humid conditions at Rajkot, Pujara batted with a water bottle in his pocket. Pujara also brought his fifty in just 67 balls.
Meanwhile, Shaw stole the show in the opening session of the day’s play. The debutant batsman showed great temperament in his first innings as he brought out his best to the table.
On the other hand, KL Rahul was dismissed without troubling the scorers as he was plumbed in front by Shanon Gabriel in the first over of the day. Meanwhile, Windies full-time skipper Jason Holder was ruled out due to an ankle sprain. Thus, Kraigg Brathwaite is holding the captaincy reins in the absence for Holder.

Meanwhile, Shaw timed the ball to perfection as he scored his runs freely. In fact, the young batsman looked in no trouble as he dictated terms to the Windies bowlers. In fact, Shaw had scored his runs at the strike rate of 75 in the Ranji Trophy. Consequently, he continued his prolific form at the International level.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the first session dominated by India:
So confident, attacking & secure on crease. He seems like a veteran out there, definitely doesn’t look like his debut. Joy to watch you play @PrithviShaw 🙂 (Also just love the on drive with the MRF sticker on the bat, takes me back to the SRT memories!)#PrithviShaw #INDvWI

The last Indian opener before KL Rahul to get out for a duck against West Indies at home was Sanjay Bangar (in Kolkata, 2002). #INDvWI

Two batsmen in the middle for India:
One, Prithvi Shaw, 18, making his Test debut.
The second, Cheteshwar Pujara, 30, who makes his Test debut every innings he plays.#IndvWI

ImO prithvi shaw instead of shikhar dhawan is a good selection, also if he plays well consistently for few years may well be a pipeline for captaincy bcs india doesn't have a young guy with leadership skills and virat kohli has never allowed anyone to settle down as leader,
