Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to field first in the first ODI against the Windies. However, the visitors didn’t get off to a great start as they lost their debutant Chandrapaul Hemraj as he could not make only nine runs. However, Kieran Powell timed the ball to perfection to score a fine half-century. The southpaw batsman scored 51 off just 39 balls to give a quick start to his team.

Meanwhile, Windies veered off the track in the middle overs. The tourists scored their runs at a brisk pace. However, they also kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The Windies lost three wickets for just 30 runs as they fell from 84-1 to 114-3.

Good score by the Windies.

However, Shimron Hetmyer was able to play a classical knock. The southpaw batsman was able to hit the ground running and found perfection in his timing. The left-hander scored his runs at a brisk pace as he scored half a dozen sixes and the same number of fours. Thus, Hetmyer was able to reach his third ODI hundred in just 78 balls. However, Shimron could not continue as he tried to carry on in the same fashion.

On the other hand, India had a disappointing day with their fielding. Rishabh Pant didn’t have an ideal start to his ODI career as he fielded with butterfingers. Pant also dropped a simple catch of Windies skipper Jason Holder. Holder provided finishing touches as he scored 38 off just 42 balls and looked ominous for India.

Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the Indian bowlers as the leg-spinner was able to scalp three wickets. The rookie bowler Khaleel Ahmed was able to take one wicket. However, Mohammed Shami who return to white ball version after a long time was expensive in his spell as he leaked 81 runs in his ten overs.

Windies were able to put a competitive total of 322-8 at the end of 50 overs.
