We need to improve – Hope

“Definitely, such knocks improve your confidence. You have to gain after every innings. It was a matter of time before I got a big score,” Shai Hope said at the post-match press conference. “(But) we need to be more consistent as a team.”

I was expecting a full yorker – Hope

Hope, who was facing Umesh Yadav in the final over said he expected a Yorker on the last delivery. The India fast bowler, who turned 31 on Thursday, bowled a wide off-side delivery which got dispatched for a boundary. Because of that shot, Hope could help Windies salvage a tie in the second ODI.

“Last ball I knew a wide yorker was coming at the end, and I had to get bat on the ball. I didn’t get enough bat but it was enough,” Hope said.

Furthermore, Hetmyer, who was the centurion in the first ODI got out at 94 in the second ODI. Earlier, Hope joined Hetmyer after Windies lost their three wickets. The duo added 143 runs in the middle and Hope’s 123 runs became crucial juncture for the Windies eventually.

“There was a change in approach after that (Hetmyer’s dismissal). We needed to take the innings deep,” Shai Hope added.

While speaking about batting with Hetmyer, Shai Hope said “It’s pretty different with him, he likes to keep the scoreboard ticking. As long as we take it to the last five overs, we knew we stood a chance.”
