India vs Windies 2018: Windies Batted Well Down The Order: Jasprit Bumrah

Following the loss in the third ODI against Windies, India pacer Jasprit Bumrah said that Windies’ lower-order made the difference in the game.

India were well on top in Pune when Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Shai Hope for 95 with a searing yorker to reduce the visitors to 227 for 8. At that time, even getting close to 250 was looking bleak. However, Ashley Nurse slammed 40 off just 22 and added 56 runs with Kemar Roach for the ninth wicket to guide Windies to a competitive total of 283 for 9.

In reply, India were all out for 240 to lose the game by 43 runs. Virat Kohli scored his third consecutive century of the series but his lone battle went in vain. The India skipper scored 107 but found little support from the other end. Kohli was eventually dismissed by Marlon Samuels in the 42nd over which ended the contest there and then. India kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and rarely looked in command during the chase.

Speaking after the game, Bumrah, who took 4 for 35 on his comeback, said that Windies’ lower-order made the difference in deciding the outcome of the game.

“I think we bowled well as a unit, till the 35th over we were pretty good. Yes, we gave a little bit of runs in the end, so may be that could be the difference. Overall, the bowling performance was not too bad. They played well and you have to give credit to the batsmen. It’s a combination of both,” said Bumrah at the post match press conference.

“If you say that their bowlers made 90 runs, then Jason Holder is an all-rounder. They batted well down the order,” he added.

Bumrah further defended his pace colleague Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who had a bad in office. Just like Bumrah, Kumar also returned to the team for the game. However, he ended up leaking 70 runs in 10 overs.

“Bhuvi started well, but in the middle or in the end (went for runs), it can happen sometimes. When you bowl at the depth, it is difficult. It is not necessary that all bowlers will click every-time,” he said.

India, meanwhile, will be looking to get back to winning ways in the upcoming game. The fourth match of the series will be played at the Brabourne Stadium on Monday.
