The World Test Championship will kick off with the upcoming Ashes series starting from August 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. India will begin their campaign when they play West Indies in the two-match Test series starting from August 22. India legend Sunil Gavaskar has wished luck to Virat Kohli & Co ahead their first campaign in the Test Championship which runs from 2019 to 2021.

Gavaskar hails team India

India will have a chance to redeem themselves after their World Cup debacle in the upcoming World Test Championship. They are currently the reigning champions in the world cricket dominating the top spot in the ICC Test Rankings. Virat Kohli & Co created history when they beat Australia 2-1 down under earlier this year. They have played some outstanding cricket in the last few years especially their bowling who have shown the capability to pick 20 wickets in a Test match making them a domitable force in this format of the game.

As they gear upto start their campaign, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar hailed the new World Test Championship saying that it will give context to every match. Gavaskar lauded Team India for their performance in the recent time and will be a top contender to be the first Test champions.

“The World Test championship will give a new meaning and context to Test cricket. Even the dead rubber games will have importance now. India have a terrific team especially a bowling attack capable of taking 20 wickets anywhere in the world and that should make them leading contenders to be the first Test match champions of the world. My very best wishes to the team for a successful start to their campaign in the West Indies,” batting legend Sunil Gavaskar told TOI on Sunday.

India will play the two-match Test series starting from August 22 at Antigua while Jamaica will host the second Test starting from August 30.
