Former India opener Virender Sehwag recently said that the whole of India will pray for Virat Kohli’s recovery ahead of the gruelling upcoming tour to England.
Meanwhile, Kohli sustained a slipped disc owing to his neck during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). He was representing the Bengaluru-based outfit Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). As a result, he will miss the County Championship stint with Surrey Cricket Club.
The prolific runs-scorer penned a deal with the County side for the month of June – to prepare for the England tour. Kohli had a disastrous tour the last time when he visited England.
According to a Board of Control for Cricket in India press release, Kohli will require a three-week rehabilitation to recover from the injury. The 29-year-old will undergo a fitness test on June 15 to confirm his availability for the two Twenty20 Internationals against Ireland.
Kohli needs to take care of his body:
Expressing his concern over Kohli’s injury, IndiaTV cricket expert Sehwag reiterated it will be tough for India to win without Kohli. He also added that Kohli needs to take care of his body as he is nearing 29-30 years of age.
“The injury can be really serious but the medical experts have to check how severe is the impact on Kohli’s body,” Sehwag said during,”Cricket Ki Baat” show.
The veteran cricket added he is hopeful that Kohli will recover well in time. He added the modern-day star must be cautious during the workout.
“However, if it’s a neck injury, it can be recovered on time. But Kohli needs to take care of his body as he is not young anymore and is around 29-30. He needs to reassess his workout regime and take precautionary measures which is very important to recover well from the injury,” he added.
Without Virat Kohli, India misses the spark
Speaking about India’s chances of winning in England without Kohli, Sehwag said it will not be a good news.
Further, he adds that without Kohli it will be tough for India to beat England in their backyard.
“If he misses the England tour, it will be difficult for Team India to register a series win against hosts. Without Kohli, the Indian team misses that spark which is required to beat big teams. Captain Kohli is a pillar of strength for Team India. He remains aggressive as a player and as a batsman and also motivates the players to give their best performance on the field,” Sehwag concluded.
