Most of the times, the Indian National Cricket Team will play on flat tracks, as India is more suited to spin bowling with not much of bounce and carry for the fast bowlers. Meanwhile, when they tour to England or New Zealand, they have faltered when the ball is doing talking for the bowlers. Speaking of the same, the former fast bowler Praveen Kumar believes Indian batsmen footwork was the issue.

Indians have shown a blistering performance in the first three ODI games and then all of a sudden, they have failed to make things happen in fourth ODI. Even in the fifth ODI, top-order failed to tackle the swing of the bowlers with the new ball.

The batters simply panic – Praveen Kumar

The former swing master of India Praveen Kumar quoted that the team will mostly play on the flat tracks, which made Indian batsmen used to that sort of footwork. He feels that was the main reason behind India’s poor display against Swing conditions.

“It happens mainly because we have been playing regularly on flat wickets. Batsmen have got used to that footwork and are not able to move their feet accordingly when the ball starts swinging. This I feel is the biggest reason why we have struggled to adjust to swinging, be it in England or in New Zealand. The batters simply panic,” Praveen Kumar said to India Today.

Flat tracks will be on offer for world cup:

However, he believes that it is not only India but also world-class teams will fail to deliver the goods against Swing bowlers. Praveen Kumar also felt that the ICC tournaments would mostly get the flat tracks, which would aid Indian team.

”As we have normally seen, flat wickets are given in multi-nation tournaments. This is done so that games are high scoring and crowds enjoy the maximum. This problem of swing bowling is being faced by batsmen the world over. It is not that just we are struggling. It is always difficult to bat whenever the ball swings. We have made huge scores in ODIs and there will be a one-off instance when we are bowled out cheaply too,” he added.

However, as Praveen Kumar said, it was one of those days, where none of the Indian batsmen found their feet moving.  With the talented youngsters in the ranks, India would most probably counter it sooner than later.
