The Board Control for Cricket in India after bagging their biggest deal in cricket for the upcoming Indian Premier League is now preparing to sell the broadcast and digital rights for Indian cricket. It should be done for both domestic and international cricket. An auction will be held to sell the rights on March 27. The rights period will be running from April 1 this year to March 31, 2023.

There have been three categories made for the rights. Global television rights plus the rest of the world digital rights package and an Indian subcontinent digitals rights package and a consolidated global rights package. When the rights were sold the last time around in 2012, Star TV won the bid. They paid Rs 3851 crores for 96 matches. The contract ends on 31st March 2018.

As per the contract, Star Network paid RTs 32.2 crores per match from 2012 to 2014 and INR 43.20 crores from matches 2014 to 2018. However after Star bagged deal of broadcasting rights for IPL, the pundits in the media have wondered whether Indian cricket can attract top bids like the cash-rich league. Star paid INR 55 crores to BCCI per IPL match.

BCCI is still unconcerned

However, the BCCI has remained unconcerned. It has decided to limit the rights period to just 5years. It has been the case with various deals including the IPL one. It was carried out last year. The tender document invitation will be available to the interested bidders until 5th March. The price is USD 10,000 which is equivalent to INR 6.5 lakhs approx.

From there on the BCCI will conduct a workshop by online auctions for these bidders on 7th March. The BCCI has given 10 am IST on March 27 as the deadline date to submit the bids. It must be done five hours before the start of the re-auction.
