Sri Lanka team has been reportedly forced to extend its stay in Dharamshala by a day due to inclement weather.

According to Hindustan Times, the chartered plane which was supposed to take the visitors out of the venue to Mohali for the second One-Day International could not take off due to poor weather conditions on Monday (December 11).

Rohit Sharma & Co., however, have reached the venue for the next game on time after the weather improved for a while and provided them a brief period to take off. On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s departure plans were ruined by incessant rains and weather, leaving the team stranded at the airport for close to four hours. Consequently, the team returned to the hotel and is likely to leave for Mohali on Tuesday.

Mohit Sood, an official a Himachal Pradesh Cricket Academy, confirmed the news, saying:

“The team has returned to the hotel, and is most likely to fly out tomorrow. This is the first time a team has been stuck here. There have been delays earlier, but it has never happened that the planes have not been able to land or take off.”

He further said the team would be forced to travel by road if the weather does not clear up on Tuesday.

“We had a discussion with the team management, and they decided to stay back. But if the weather doesn’t clear up on Tuesday then the only option left will be to take the road,” Sood said.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, is leading the three-match series 1-0 after crushing the hosts by seven wickets in the series-opener. After sending the Men in Blue to bat first on a tough wicket, the Islanders had Rohit Sharma & Co. on the mats, reducing them to 29 for seven before a fighting fifty from MS Dhoni helped the hosts to post a respectable 112.

In reply, the visitors chased down the total with considerable ease, in the end, to draw the first blood in the series.
