Over the years, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has minted tons and tons of money on teams and players and made a lot of superstars wealthy. The franchises that have been a part of the cash-rich league have always been behind achieving glory in the tournament as there is a no bigger prize in franchise T20 cricket than the IPL.

With the pride and glory, also comes the whopping sum of money associated with the league and over the years, we have seen players and teams going from rags to riches in the blink of an eye. Today, we’ll talk about the 10 IPL teams that have earned the maximum amount from the tournament, being either the winner or the runner up in all the 13 editions held so far.

10. Rajasthan Royals- Rs. 4.80 Crores

Rajasthan Royals (RR) are on the 10th spot in the list as they won the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2008). As the winners of the tournament, they were handed Rs.4.80 Crore as the prize money and after that, the team has failed to impress in the coming editions of the tournament.

Deccan Chargers Hyderabad take the last second spot in this money-minting list as they went on to win the second edition of the Indian Premier League back in 2009, beating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final of the tournament. Deccan Chargers Hyderabad were further involved in controversial money matters and the franchise was banned after 2012.

8. Delhi Capitals- Rs.10 Crores

Delhi Capitals are on the 8th spot in this list as they have been able to make it to the final only once in this prestigious cash-rich league. They made it into their first final of the cash-rich league in 2020 as they were beaten by Mumbai Indians (MI) by 5 wickets in a blistering match held at Dubai. Delhi Capitals would have been at a higher spot in this list had the prize pool not been shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

7. Kings XI Punjab- Rs.10.00 Crores

Kings XI Punjab make it into this list as they had the only chance to be a part of the final in their history, way back in 2014. However, they lost the final to Kolkata Knight Riders that year and since then, their performance has been dismal. This year, the team played good all-round cricket but failed to qualify for the playoffs as individual performances came out on top and team performance was somewhat diminished.

In IPL 2016 and IPL 2017, two franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were banned for their involvement in the spot-fixing case. This led to the birth of two new franchises for a couple of years, namely, the Rising Pune Supergiants and the Gujarat Lions. RPS made it into the final of 2017 under the leadership of MS Dhoni and lost the title to Mumbai Indians. They were handed prize money of Rs. 10.00 Crore for being the runner ups of the prestigious edition.

5. Royal Challengers Bangalore- Rs. 15.40 Crores

The Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore have been one of the most famous teams of the tournament so far. Their popularity largely depends on the fact that they have boasted a bundle of international superstars over the years including Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, and Dale Steyn among many others.

Even after having a lot of superstars in the team, they have failed to win the title on any occasion so far. However, they have made it into the final thrice and this keeps them on the fifth spot. In 2009, RCB were the runner ups and were given Rs. 2.40 Crore as the prize money. In IPL 2011, they were handed Rs. 3.00 Crore for being the runner ups. In 2016, they lost the title once again to SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and were awarded Rs. 10 Crore.

Kolkata Knight Riders have been among the most successful teams of the tournament so far. They have won the IPL tilt twice in IPL 2012 and IPL 2014. In 2012, they beat Chennai Super Kings in the final and earned a sum of Rs. 10.00 Crore.

They won the title once again in the year 2014 and this time, their victims were Kings XI Punjab. The prize money, however, was much more this time as they bagged Rs. 15.00 Crore this time.

3. SunRisers Hyderabad- Rs. 27.50 Crores

SunRisers Hyderabad have made it into the final twice ever since they have made their debut in the IPL way back in 2013. They first won the title in 2016, beating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. As a reward, they were handed prize money of Rs. 15.00 Crore. Next up, they ended on the losing side in the IPL 2018 final when Chennai Super Kings beat them. Since they were the runner ups, they were rewarded Rs.12.50 Crore.

2. Chennai Super Kings- Rs. 71.40 Crores

Chennai Super Kings have been among the most successful teams of the tournament so far. In the IPL, Chennai Super Kings are the only team to have made it to 8 IPL finals and hence they are at such a high position in this list.

They were the runner ups in IPL 2008 and received an amount Rs. 2.40 Crore. They won the title in 2010 and 2011 and in both the years, they were rewarded with Rs. 6.00 Crore in each of the seasons. They were once again the runner ups in IPL 2012 as they were handed Rs. 7.00 Crore and in the subsequent year they won Rs.7.50 Crore being the runner ups of the tournament. In IPL 2015, they were the runner ups once again and this time, they bagged Rs. 10.00 Crore.

Chennai Super Kings won their third title in 2018 and this time they won Rs. 20.00 Crore. In IPL 2019, they lost the final to Mumbai Indians and were handed a prize money of Rs. 12.50 Crore.

Mumbai Indians have been the most successful team in the history of the Indian Premier League. So far, they have won 5 IPL titles, with their last title coming in the year 2020. They were the runner ups in 2010 and they were handed Rs.3.00 Crore. In 2013, Mumbai Indians won their first IPL title and were handed prize money of Rs. 10.00 Crore.

Mumbai Indians then won the titles in IPL 2015, IPL 2017, IPL 2019, and in IPL 2020. In 2015 and 2017, they won Rs. 15.00 Crore each for the two seasons. In 2019, they were handed Rs. 20.00 Crore as the prize money for being the winners. Mumbai Indians bagged Rs. 20.00 Crore as the winners of IPL 2020.
