Afghanistan teenage sensation Rashid Khan has been a champion bowler for any side he had played for in his career, and due to his guile and numerous variations up his sleeve, the leggie fetched a whopping Rs 9 crores in the IPL Auctions.
He has been a find for Afghanistan and has taken Afghanistan cricket to great heights in the recent times. He is a hot property in almost all T20 tournaments across the globe, and it was evident from the way, franchises started bidding for him. Eventually, Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to retain him via the RTM services.
The leggie performed brilliantly in his opening IPL season and ended up tricking many batsmen all through the tournament. He has been getting better with each passing game, and his variations are simply out of the world. His wrong uns are very deceptive, and even the world class batsmen can look fool in front of his variations.
He uses the crease to good effect and in his brief international career so far; the leggie has bagged 70 wickets in 32 ODI’s at an exceptional average of 14.48 while he had scalped 42 wickets in 27 T20I games at an average of 14.35. His records speak for himself, and there was no doubt in the mind of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team management to retain him.
During an exclusive interview with the ESPN Cricinfo, Hyderabad coach Tom Moody spoke about the retention strategy of the franchise and the balance of the squad at the end of the auction this time around.
However, when asked about Rashid Khan’s price, Moody said that,
“9 crores was a fair price for the Afghan cricketer”.
In his previous IPL season, Rashid became the first from his country to play in the IPL, and in 14 matches, the leggie prized out 17 wickets at an economy rate of 6.63. He has been a find for the Afghans and if he can be humble and stay focused on his job he might well go on to become one of the greats in the game.
