Sunrisers Hyderabad’s poor record in this edition of the IPL against Chennai is something to talk about. But for the time being, Kane Williamson and his men will be happy to cherish this crucial semi-finals victory against Kolkata Knight Riders.
At one point it looked like the visitors will have to pack their bags home but a strong comeback by their bowlers ensured a 13-run win.
Williamson on the team effort and Rashid effect
The Hyderabad skipper praised his bowlers and had a special mention for Rashid Khan. The Afghan spinner bagged three wickets and scored a crucial 34 runs off ten balls.
KKR were going strong at 93/2, but a string of wickets tilted the game towards the Orange army.
“Was a great fighting effort, game ebbed and flowed. Game could’ve gone either way, fell our way in crunch moments. Credit to the way the boys finished off. Was slipping away at the start, but we pulled it back nicely to get wickets. Rashid was brilliant, but he’s got another game day after. We’ll keep him wrapped up. Exciting, must-win game, great to go through to the final, important to move on.” he said.
Saha makes a strong comeback
The Kiwi star was relieved to have Wriddhiman Saha back in the fold. Saha provided a quick-fire start, scoring a gutsy 35 off 27 balls.
“As a team, we fight till the last ball, showed that today. Someone like Rashid is the perfect example of that. Outstanding talent, but a team effort. Lot of the guys chipped in, great team fighting effort which is the attitude we want to see. I the thing we didn’t change was our balance, Saha was injured, but he came back, was nice to have his experience. Every one of the guys have played a huge part, whether on or off the field.” Williamson said.
