IPL 2018: Axar Patel delighted to team-up with skipper in bowling

The bowling all-rounder Axar Patel was the retained in the Indian Premier League retention list on January 4. Interestingly, he was the solitary pick by Kings XI Punjab owing to the retention procedure.

In the short-paced tournament, Axar has risen to the occasion which saw him excel in the professional domestic Twenty20 competition IPL.

“I think this familiarity I have with him [Ashwin] is a huge advantage,” Axar was quoted as saying by KXIP digital medium.

The Gujarat-based left-arm orthodox spinner made his IPL debut in 2013. He made his maiden entry in the lucrative league for reigning champions Mumbai Indians back then.

Ravichandran Ashwin appointed as a skipper:

Earlier, the Mohali-based outfit KXIP appointed Ashwin as the captain. They played the final of the seventh edition of the T20 league.

The Chennai-based spinner Ashwin was the chief architect for Chennai Super Kings before settling with a new franchise.

“Ashwin is really experienced and I am glad that he has now become the captain,” Axar said.

Having the spectacular record under his belt, KXIP is hopeful of new leader deliver according to the expectations. Ashwin could swing the fortunes in favour of Punjab outfit.

Axar Patel to bowl in tandem with Ashwin:

The 25-year-old wrist spinner Patel has hailed his senior partner Ashwin. He reiterated Ashwin has a major role to play while having the knack of picking wickets at regular intervals.

“I know that Ashwin is an attacking bowler,” Axar said.

While observing closely, Axar conceded his role is to contain the batsmen as he is expecting it turning out to be a great experience altogether.

“His [Ashwin’s] role is to pick wickets, and my role is generally to contain the flow of runs and build pressure from one end. So, it will make for a good partnership,” Axar asserted.

Since being in the fold for Kings KXIP in 2014, Axar has set an example to raise the bar of a game. He also contributed with the bat.

Moreover, Axar All set to share the dressing room with Ashwin, Axar has a lot on an offer to work according to the experience.

Echoing the word of KXIP mentor and former skipper Virender Sehwag, Axar stated the bowling captain is exciting for the team. He further added the skipper known the game well in order to set the field.

“I think if a bowler is the captain it is a much better option because a bowler knows what the batsman is thinking and can make changes according to the situation the game is in,” Axar asserted.

Axar has already expressed the excitement to partner with Ashwin with the white-ball. He remarked they have done a bulk of the job for the national team.

“We have done that for India too in the past, and will look to continue the same for KXIP in the coming season,” Axar concluded.

Known for his impeccable control over the ball, Axar is looking to deliver for KXIP in the impending edition of IPL. Moreover, the eleventh season will kick off on April 7 in Mumbai.
