IPL 2018: BCCI Invites Third Parties to Acquire Rights in Partnership

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited the parties for the rights of the different services during the upcoming IPL 2018 while dispatching a release.
With the lucrative Indian Premier League’s (IPL) eleventh edition kicks off in April, the Board maintained the rights are supposed to be a three-year plan in availing the rights on a minimum basis.
“No more than one-third party will be granted rights in relation to each Product Category,” the BCCI’s presser stated.
Owing to the ‘expression of interest’ the third parties could also acquire the rights of ‘IPL Official Partner Rights’.
“The BCCI invites third parties to indicate their interest in acquiring any of the following rights: IPL Official Partner Rights, IPL Strategic Time Out Partner Rights and IPL Umpire Partner Rights,” the release added.
Interestingly the third party invitation further includes the rights for the maximum of the six rights in the cash-rich and widely acclaimed league.
“The Board “intends (but shall not be obliged) to appoint up to a maximum of six Official Partners, one Strategic Timeout Partner and one Umpire Partner”, it concluded.
The IPL 2018 has also witnessed 17 players getting picked in the retention procedure with the mega-auction will be held in Bengaluru on January 27th and 28th, respectively.
Moreover, earlier, all the eight teams were asked to put forward the retention list on January 4 after the proposing of the procedure by the IPL Governing Council. On the other side, the broadcasting giant Star Sports has bagged the media rights for the cycle of five years between 2018 to 2022.
Interestingly, crowd-favourite Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are making a comeback after 2015 (ninth edition) after being allegedly involved in the IPL scandal in 2013.
Both teams served a two-year ban, as Super Kings management has retained Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja as Royals settled with Steven Smith in the retention bid.
With the Twenty20 competition getting held under the tutelage of BCCI, the title sponsors of the IPL is smartphone giant from China Vivo which has paid the whopping amount of 22,00 crore for five years since 2017.
