On May 27 (Sunday), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) led by MS Dhoni won their overall third Indian Premier League (IPL) title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the grand finale of the Vivo IPL’s season eleven by eight wickets at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai

It was a sensational knock from the blade of Shane Watson which eventually helped Chennai to chase down the target of 179 in the penultimate over.

Well, it was an absolute carnage at the display from Watson as he smashed 11 fours and eight sixes during his remarkable knock. After being unable to score for the first 10 deliveries during his innings, Watson started an onslaught which left Hyderabad stunned and there was no way back for them.

It was CSK skipper Dhoni, who won the toss and opted to field. Injured Wriddhiman Saha made way for Shreevats Goswami in the final clash. The southpaw was run out while going for a non-existent run. However, from there on, Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Kane Williamson brought back Hyderabad to the match.

It was some sensible batting by the duo before Ravindra Jadeja produced the much-needed wicket of Dhawan, in his very first over.

Williamson scored a fluent 47. However, the impetus was provided by Yusuf Pathan, who was like a sleeping beast all through the tournament.

However, he did the job for his team on a big day. Yusuf struck some lusty blows during his knock of 45 of 25 deliveries which were studded with four fours and a couple of sixes.

Brathwaite also smashed three sixes during his breezy knock of 21 of 11 deliveries. The target of 179 wasn’t a match-winning total under any stress of imagination especially in a stadium like Wankhede.

However, in a match like a final, runs on the board is always important and Hyderabad did that with perfection.

With so many top class bowlers in their ranks, it should have been a good fight. However, Watson’s innings put rest to the hopes of Hyderabad.

Following Chennai’s victory, two of the fittest members of the CSK squad fought it out in a running between the wickets. It was skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo, who challenged each other in the Test.

In the end, it was a close battle between the duo as they completed the three runs almost at the same time. However, MS Dhoni was perhaps just a bit faster.
