Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered a memorable victory in the Qualifier 1st of the Vivo Indian Premier League (IPL) 11 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). They were done and dusted at one stage of the match.
However, courtesy of a brilliant unbeaten knock from du Plessis, Chennai made a brilliant comeback in the last few overs which helped them win the match by a couple of wickets and with five deliveries to spare.
Earlier in the day, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) scored 138 in their allotted 20 overs. It was a good comeback by Hyderabad after losing all their top order batsmen in the first 15 overs.
However, it was a great knock from Carlos Brathwaite in the end which propelled Hyderabad to a score of 139 in 20 allotted overs. He remained unbeaten on 43 off just 28 deliveries. His innings was studded with four boundaries and four sixes respectively.
Dwayne Bravo was the pick of the Chennai bowlers. The all-rounder returned with brilliant figures of two for 25 in his four overs spell. All the bowlers were on the spot.
However, Shardul Thakur went for a few runs in the last few overs. The score of 139 wasn’t going to be enough under any stress of imagination.
However given the bowling attack of Hyderabad and the totals they have defended this season, they would have surely backed themselves to win the match.

They started off in a sensational manner. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged the wicket of Shane Watson in the very first over. He didn’t bother the scorers going for a duck.
At the other end, Siddharth Kaul then took two wickets in consecutive deliveries. The medium pacer castled Suresh Raina before making Ambati Rayudu look silly. It was a sensational out swinging delivery which breached the defence of the man in-form and disturbed his timbers.
Chennai’s stunning comeback:
Wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was foxed by a sensational wrong un by Rashid Khan. Chennai was reduced to 62 for six.
However, Deepak Chahar stitched together a useful partnership with du Plessis. But, after his dismissal, the match seemed to be over.
Du Plessis kept the hopes of CSK alive. He smashed some lusty blows of Carlos Brathwaite in the 18th over and brought the target down to 23 in the last 12 deliveries.
Shardul Thakur managed to eke out a few boundaries in the penultimate over. ‘
Eventually, Proteas finished off the match with a six of Bhuvneshwar Kumar off the very first ball.
Faf Du Plessis took to his Twitter handle and expressed his feelings after the magnificent victory.
“Thanx so much to everyone for the kind messages. Can’t believe that we won that game last night. Special to be there at the end. Looking forward to the final on Sunday,” wrote du Plessis.
