Indian Premier League (IPL) has undoubtedly changed the financial status of cricketers across the cricketing globe. They were made millionaires by the cash-rich league in no time. The domestic professional domestic league has provided financial security for the players in nutshell.

However, all do not go as per the plan for franchises. For example, when Delhi Daredevils bought Yuvraj Singh for a massive INR 16 Crore in the eighth edition of an auction in 2015, eyebrows were raised. The move proved to be a disastrous one. But that happens to almost every franchise at least once in a while.

The players might not live up to the hype and the expectations that come up with the massive price tag.

Here we look at the top five players who’ve failed to justify their price tags so far in IPL 2018.

#5. Glenn Maxwell

Bought for a staggering INR crore by Delhi Daredevils in the auction, Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell have not fared well so far in the tournament.

His lack of performances in the middle order is severely impacting Delhi franchise.

They had won only one game in their first five games of the burgeoning league. He contributed only 81 runs so far and is yet to justify his massive price tag.

#4. D’Arcy Short

The Aussie cricketer D’Arcy Short was amongst the most sought-after players in the auction. He eventually was bought by Rajasthan Royals after stiff competition from Delhi Daredevils.

However, he could not justify his INR four crore being spent on him. Despite his heroics in Big Bash League (BBL) last season, which got him a call-up to the national team, Short looked nervous while playing for Rajasthan Royals.

The left-handed batsman scored only 65 runs so far and will need to deliver big at the top.

#3. Ben Stokes

The star English all-rounder Ben Stokes was the most expensive buy of this season’s auction.

However, he is yet to find his groove in the league. He was very poor with the ball bagging only one wicket and going for over 10 runs an over.

He was comparatively better with the bat, scoring 107 runs in five games for Rajasthan Royals.

Only an in-form Ben Stokes could revive Royals and take them to playoffs this season.

#2. Chris Morris

One of the best players for Delhi Daredevils last season, Chris Morris is unable to replicate his high standards this season for the franchise.

The bowling all-rounder got a minimal opportunity with the bat so far and has fared decently coming lower down in the batting order.

But his poor bowling seems to hurt Delhi Daredevils very badly. He managed only three wickets in his four games so far and was touch expensive.

His economy rate of 10.21 is a cause of concern for the IPL team.

#1. Jaydev Undakat

After a sensational season with Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS), Jaydev Undakat was one of the stars in the auction this year. He fetched a whopping INR 11.5 crore in the auction and was considered the spearhead of Rajasthan Royals’ bowling unit.

However, he has failed very badly so far. He picked up only two wickets in the five league games at an expensive economy rate of 10.66.

If Rajasthan Royals need to start winning games, then their big names need to start performing.
