Mumbai Indians (MI) are undoubtedly the most successful franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with three titles to their name.
Over the years, they have produced some amazing cricketers and shaped the lives of many. Many cricketers including the likes of Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have made it to the national squad while playing for the Mumbai Indians.
Moreover, both of them are now representing India in all the formats and have made a name for themselves.
Meanwhile, there are a few cricketers, who failed to get a foothold while playing for Mumbai in the league. They got limited opportunities and couldn’t leave a long-lasting impression.
However, they went on to represent another franchise later and made a name for themselves and has contributed to team’s success as well.
Here is the list of five such cricketers:
Axar Patel:
The bowling all-rounder from Gujarat had earned his maiden IPL contract with the Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2013. However, he didn’t play a game for them, as Kings XI Punjab roped him in 2014 after a power-packed domestic season.
He had an impressive season with Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2014 with 17 wickets. He was rightly named the ‘Emerging Player of the Year’ for IPL 2014.
Moreover, Axar made his ODI debut in June 2014 and since then, he had been plying his skills for India as well in the shorter formats whenever given the opportunity.
Yuzvendra Chahal:
Chahal became a part of the Mumbai Indians side in 2011 after an impressive stint in the domestic U19 tournament.
He was also a part of Champions League T20 as well, where he starred for them in the final. However, he failed to get a foothold in the side.
He then changed his base to Bangalore where he claimed 23 and 21 wickets in the 2015 and 2016 seasons of the league. Since then, he didn’t have to look back, as he went to make his India debut.
He had an impressive last year for the men in blues in the limited-overs cricket.
Kuldeep Yadav:
Kuldeep had been part of the Mumbai Indians set-up in the 2012 season where he had a fond memory of bamboozling Sachin Tendulkar once in the nets with his wrong’un. However, it didn’t translate into his IPL debut.
Two seasons later, Kolkata Knight Riders roped him but didn’t get a game in the league. He had to wait until the Champions League where, playing as a support bowler to Sunil Narine, he impressed with his economy.
Since then, he had led the spin bowling attack of the Kolkata based team along with Narine. So far, he has picked 26 wickets in 24 games for KKR at an impressive economy rate.
Glenn Maxwell:
After leaving a minor impression in his first stint with Delhi Daredevils, Glenn Maxwell became the expensive buy at the 2013 auctions when Mumbai Indians roped him. However, he played only three matches and failed to have a long-lasting impression.
Kings XI Punjab then signed him in 2014 which changed his career in the league. Maxwell teamed up with David Miller for Punjab in clobbering the opposition, as he amassed 552 runs in 16 games. He then represented Punjab for the next three seasons and had a good time with the bat.
The Australian all-rounder is also handy with the ball and can chip in with breakthroughs in the middle-overs.
Colin Munro:
The swashbuckling New Zealand batsman had been a part of the Mumbai India squad in 2015. However, he didn’t play a game. Munro then shifted his base to Kolkata but failed to impress scoring ten runs in the four games.
Delhi Daredevils roped him at the auctions early this year and has been an integral part of the squad. Although he is yet to set the tournament on fire, Munro possesses a lot of capability. Moreover, he is the only player to score three T20I hundreds.
