Gautam Gambhir has dismissed all the rumours suggesting that he might call it a day in the coming days. The southpaw’s career took a bizarre turn in this year’s Indian Premier League where he returned to play for Delhi Daredevils after a highly-successful seven-year stint with Kolkata Knight Riders.

Gambhir sensationally stepped down as skipper after his side’s dismal start to the season. Under his captaincy, the Daredevil managed a solitary win in six games. Another reason behind Gambhir’s decision to step down was his poor returns with the bat. He started the season on a brilliant note, scoring 55 against Kings XI Punjab.

However, his performance dipped after that. In the next four innings, he was dismissed for single-digit score thrice. Overall, he managed to score only 85 runs in five innings despite scoring a fifty in the very first game for his old-franchise.

With neither the team nor his own form showing any signs of improvement, Gambhir decided to drop the bombshell by stepping down from his post. And his sudden decision made many speculate that he might call it a day from the game.

But amidst all this, the veteran batsman has quashed all these rumours and has said his future lies on how his first-class season goes.

“See, there is still a lot of time left before the next IPL.  It is not like you have to take the decision today itself. My last first-class went very well where I scored four centuries and made it to the final (Ranji Trophy). The second most toughest decision was when I stepped down as captain. But the toughest is to decide when are you going to stop playing,” he told ABP.

“But again you should keep playing as long as you have the hunger. Age is just a number. As far as the IPL is concerned, you have one whole year. It also depends on my form in first-class cricket. So it is not like I would retire today or not play the next IPL. It all depends on my first-class season,” he added.
