IPL 2018: Match 53, Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore – Statistical Highlights
Rajasthan Royals remained alive in the tournament with a comprehensive 30-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore. Batting first, the Royals rode on Rahul Tripathi’s unbeaten knock of 80 to post 164 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, the Royal Challengers were all out for 134 despite AB de Villiers scoring a fighting fifty. Shreyas Iyer starred with the ball for the Royals, picking up 4 for 16.. The loss also ended Royal Challengers’ run this season.
With the game all done and dusted now, here is a look at some interesting numbers and stats:
1. For the very first time in his illustrious career, de Villiers scored fifty-plus scores in three consecutive innings in T20s and IPL. He smashed 69 in the previous game against Sunrisers Hyderabad and an unbeaten 72 against Delhi Daredevils.
2. This is the fourth time a fifty-plus from de Villiers came in a losing cause in T20s. De Villiers has so far scored 20 fifty-plus scores while chasing in T20s. His last fifty which came in a losing cause was in 2014 against Kings XI Punjab when he scored 53.
3. Jofra Archer scored a duck in the game. It was his third duck of the season. His three-duck tally is the the joint-most for a Rajasthan Royals player in an IPL. Shane Warne also bagged three ducks for them in 2009.
4. Heinrich Klaasen effected three stumpings in the game which is the joint-most for any wicketkeeper in an IPL match. MS Dhoni achieved the feat against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2010 and 2011 while Robin Uthappa did the same against Rising Pune Supergiant last year.
4. In addition to effecting three stumpings, Klaasen also took a catch. His four dismissals behind the wickets are the joint second most for any wicketkeeper in an IPL match. Only Kumar Sangakkara (5 for Deccan Chargers vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2011) had more than four dismissals in an IPL game. Klaasen is also the first wicketkeeper from Rajasthan Royals to have managed four dismissals in an IPL match.
5. Virat Kohli was dismissed for the eighth time to a spinner this season. No spinner had managed to get the better of him in the previous IPL season.
6. Virat Kohli equalled the record of a captain getting dismissed by a spinner most number of times in an IPL season. He equalled the record of Adam Gilchrist and Rohit Sharma. Both the players were dismissed eight times by spinners in a season. Gilchrist had to endure a hard time against the spinners in 2009. On the other hand, Rohit faced the same fate last year (2017).
