Delhi Daredevils (DD) knocked Mumbai Indians (MI) out of Vivo Indian Premier League (IPL) season 11 as they defeated the three-time champions by 11 runs – to finish their campaign on a high.
It will definitely be a huge boost for Delhi ahead of next edition. Mumbai, on the other hand, will have themselves to blame for the loss. With the sort of batting line-up they have, a target of 175 should have been chased down by them.
Earlier in the day, it was yet another brilliant innings from Rishabh Pant which propelled Delhi to a competitive total of 174 in their allotted 20 overs.
Now, let us have a look at the player ratings of the winning team, Delhi Daredevils:
Quick Read: Daredevils vs Mumbai Indians – Five Game-Changing Moments
Prithvi Shaw- 1/5:
The young Mumbaikar Prithvi Shaw had a forgettable outing. After scoring 12, he was run-out in bizarre fashion. Shaw wasn’t aware of the throw which Hardik Pandya hurled towards the non-striker’s end.
Shaw was left scratching his head but it was surely a poor display of awareness by the teenager. Even in the field he was quite mediocre and let go a number of balls.
Glenn Maxwell- 3.5/5:
The swashbuckling all-rounder Glenn Maxwell got Daredevils off to a flying start courtesy a brisk 22 of just 12 deliveries. He was eventually dismissed by a ferocious delivery from Jasprit Bumrah,
In the field, Maxwell was the pioneer of two sensational catches near the boundary ropes. The wicket of Kieron Pollard and MI skipper Rohit Sharma was all possible due to the tremendous presence of mind shown by Maxwell. He backflipped the back to Trent Boult on both the occasions and the fast bowler completed the catch with utmost comfort.
Shreyas Iyer- 2/5:
The skipper Shreyas Iyer also had a relatively mediocre day. He could only make six of 10 deliveries while batting.
However, he handled his troops well towards the end as Delhi registered a close 11 runs victory against the Mumbai Indians.
Rishabh Pant- 4/5:
The southpaw Rishab Pant continued his sensational run in the tournament as he smashed yet another half-century. It was a brilliant innings which was studded with four fours and as many sixes. He was eventually dismissed while going for big shots.
It was Krunal Pandya who brought about his downfall in the end. However, by then, Rishabh had set a good platform for Delhi to score a competitive total.
Vijay Shankar- 3.5/5:
The all-rounder played brilliant innings towards the latter part of the inning which eventually propelled Delhi to a total of 174.
It was some good lusty hitting by Shankar as he scored a brisk 43 of just 30 deliveries which were studded with three fours and a couple of sixes.
Abhishek Sharma- 2.5/5:
The young 17-year-old score quick 15 of 10 deliveries coming towards the fag end of the innings.
The southpaw smashed a brilliant six and remained unbeaten.
Harshal Patel- 3.5/5:
It was another good performance by the all-rounder. Despite not being required to bat, Harshal did his job with the ball in hand.
Despite going for runs he bowled a spectacular final over where he bagged the prized wicket of Ben Cutting which put a rest to Mumbai’s chances. He ended up conceding 28 runs but bagged three crucial wickets which proved to be decisive in the end.
Amit Mishra- 4.5/5:
The leggie was undoubtedly the match winner for Delhi. The veteran spinner bowled quite brilliantly and troubled top order batsmen on a consistent basis. He ended up bagging three crucial wickets of Evin Lewis, Ishan Kishan, and Hardik Pandya.
The wicket of Pandya, in particular, was a huge moment in the match. He also bagged the Man of the Match award for his outstanding performance.
Liam Plunkett- 2/5:
The right-arm medium pacer didn’t have a particularly good day. Plunkett ended up conceding 27 runs in his three overs which included 15 runs over in the death. He could have been handed over the last over.
However, Iyer decided to go for Harshal which proved to be the correct choice in the end.
Sandeep Lamichhane- 3.5/5
The leg-spinner from Nepal had a pretty impressive day at the office. After conceding a four and a six of Suryakumar Yadav in the very first over, Lamaichhane came back to dismiss him. He added two more wickets in the form of Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya in the same over.
However, he went for runs in his final over as Hardik Pandya attacked him. He ended with figures of 3/36 in his 4 overs spell.
Trent Boult- 3/5:
The left-arm pacer from New Zealand had a mediocre day at the office.
However, he bowled well in patches and bagged a wicket in the process. Boult went for a few runs in his penultimate over.
