IPL 2018: MS Dhoni Hails Shane 'Shocking Watson, Thanks Fans As Chennai Super Kings Lift Title

Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni had their tasks cut out when the season started. While the franchise was returning to the league after a two-year absence, Dhoni was donning the captain’s hat after a while. But in the end, both Super Kings as well as Dhoni lived up to their reputation as the latter led his side to the Indian Premier League title on Sunday.

The Super Kings thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets to win the all important contest. It was just a perfect finale for the Super Kings as they thoroughly dominated the contest. From the toss till Ambati Rayudu’s winning four, almost everything went Super Kings’ way as they decimated the Sunrisers by 8 wickets. The architect of the win was none other than their opening batsman Shane Watson.

The hard-hitting allrounder scored an unbeaten ton to help the Super Kings chase down 179 with utmost ease. It was a knock of highest quality as the veteran showed his vast wealth of experience to ace the chase. The hard-hitting batsman started his innings in an unusual manner. It took him an incredible 11 balls to open his account. However, it was just the calm before the storm. He completed his fifty off 32 balls and then reached his ton off just 51 balls. In the end, he remained unbeaten on 117. His knock came off just 57 balls and was studded with 11 fours and 8 sixes as Super Kings reached home in the 19th over.

Earlier in the game, the Sunrisers had scored 178 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. Kane Williamson top-scored for the Sunrisers, scoring 47 while Yusuf Pathan and Carlos Brathwaite also made useful contributions.

The Super Kings and Dhoni could not have asked for a better reunion. Following the win in the final, Dhoni took to Instagram to thanks the supporters and also hailed Watson, writing:

“Thanks everyone for the support and Mumbai for turning yellow.Shane ‘shocking’ Watson played a shocking innings to get us through.end of a good season. Ziva doesn’t care about the trophy, wants to run on the lawn according to her wordings.”
