MI Squad Ratings- 7/10

The most successful team in IPL history, Mumbai Indians have yet again forged a solid team, and despite a few flaws here and there, the final squad looks pretty strong for the defending champions.

They might have a few woes in the middle order, but some players can turn any match on its head within a blink of an eye.

They retained the likes of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah while also pocketing Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard via Right to Match. The core looks pretty solid, and in all likelihood; these five players would be part of the playing XI on most occasions.

Despite Rohit Sharma’s prowess opening the batting for India, he has preferred batting down the order when it comes to IPL but given there is no Jos Buttler or a Parthiv Patel, this time around, he might be tempted to start the innings.

Star Windies opener Evin Lewis is also part of the squad and is expected to open the inning either with Rohit or Ishan Kishan. The three-time IPL champions have got a couple of overseas left-arm pacers in their squad, including the likes of Mustafizur Rahman and Jason Behrendorff. Recently retired South African star JP Duminy also returned to Mumbai Indians where he started off his IPL career.

Saurabh Tiwary who rose to prominence after impressive performances for Mumbai in the IPL is also part of the defending champions unit. However, it remains to be seen whether he gets a chance in the playing XI unless for an injury.

Meanwhile, Aditya Tare in all likelihood will take the role of wicket-keeper and can also open the batting if required.

They had also bought the mystery spinner Akila Dananjaya, who bamboozled India when they toured the Island nation last year. U-19 star Anukul Roy who has impressed one and all in the ongoing World Cup is also part of the team but is expected to warm the benches more often than not. Overall the team looks pretty settled and will be hoping to defend their title successfully.
