Kings XI Punjab have retained left-arm Indian spinner Axar Patel on the retention day, and the franchise has shelled out 12.5 crores to retain the left arm spinner.
However, Patel will be paid INR 6. 75 Crores by the franchisees, but according to the retention policy, 12.5 Crores will be deducted from the available purse of INR 80 Crores.
Kings XI is one of the two teams in the league to retain just one player in the form of Axar Patel. Punjab’s mentor Virender Sehwag had earlier mentioned that the franchise would retain just one player. Fans and pundits had speculated that it would most probably be Marcus Stoinis or David Miller. However, by retaining Patel the management took the fans by surprise.
Patel joined Kings XI Punjab in 2014 and had had an impressive stint with the Punjab side. The 23-year-old left arm spinner has played four seasons with the team and has not missed a single match playing for the Punjab side.
Patel has played 59 matches for Kings XI Punjab and had 58 wickets to his name at an average of 26.67 with an economy of 7.41. Patel has been handy with the bat in hand as well and has a best of 44 in the previous season.
