India U19 captain, Prithvi Shaw, was sold to Delhi Daredevils for an amount of Rs 1.2 Crore. The much-talked player drew the first bid from Delhi Daredevils only before Mumbai Indians joined the bidding process.
In between, Rajasthan Royals too came in, but they withdrew soon. From there, again, the challenge was between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians only, and in the end, Mumbai decided to withdraw from the race once Shaw’s price reached Rs 1.2 Crore.
Shaw has drawn comparisons with none other than Sachin Tendulkar for his record in junior cricket. In his first game in first-class cricket, he scored a century and became first ever player since Amol Mazumdar to score a century for Mumbai on Ranji Trophy debut.
He continued his great run in Duleep Trophy too and scored a century in the final. In the 2017/18 Ranji season, Shaw scored 537 runs in six games, including three centuries.
Under him, India U19 have qualified for the semi-final of the Junior World Cup and will face Pakistan U19 in the knockout game on January 30.
Shaw was the second U19 player of the day to be bought by a franchise. Before him, Shubman Gill was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for an amount of Rs 1.80 Crore.
