Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to field first against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first Qualifier of this year’s Indian Premier League at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Here is what the captains said:

MS Dhoni:

“We will bowl first. It makes it slightly easier in the second innings. We have had a quite a few options, lucky to get some good players right from the start. It’s always a fresh start and take it one game at a time. Only one change. Watson comes in for Billings.”

Kane Williamson:

“We were gonna have a bowl. Very similar reasons. We try our best to adapt to the conditions. Wankhede is a very good surface. We are playing the same team.”

Preview:

While the contest is between the top two teams of the season so far, it is safe to say that neither of them has managed to dominate the league stage as much as they would have liked. The Sunrisers were at their dominating best, winning 9 of their 11 games before they ran out of steam. The Kane Williamson-led side are coming into the contest after suffering three defeats on the trot. What is alarming for them is that in all the defeats, their bowling, which has been the architect of their playoff qualification this season, has struggled during these three defeats.

Chennai Super Kings might not be in supreme form but Kane Williamson & Co. will have their task cut out against them. The Super Kings have already defeated the Sunrisers twice this season.

Super Kings, on the other hand, will also not enter the game with high confidence. They have been inconsistent in the latter half of the tournament and should be at their best to beat the Sunrisers. Past form count for very little in games like these and the better team on the team will emerge victorious.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Shikhar Dhawan, Shreevats Goswami(w), Kane Williamson(c), Manish Pandey, Shakib Al Hasan, Yusuf Pathan, Carlos Brathwaite, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul, Sandeep Sharma

Chennai Super Kings:
