An intriguing battle is on the cards when table-toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clash with the second-placed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) first Qualifier at the historic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday (May 22) evening.
Meanwhile, a little difference in the run-rate separated both the teams went on to finish on 18 points each after 14 games in the league leg.
The riveting contest at the Wankhede will decide out who will directly qualify for the grand finale which is slated for May 27. The winner will book a spot in the summit clash. Whereas, the losing side will have to play the second Qualifier in Kolkata on May 25.
Chennai, however, is coming from the back of a win against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by five wickets.
On the other hand, Hyderabad lost three games on a trot after securing their place in the playoffs stage.
In fact, it was the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led unit that ended Sunrisers’ six-game winning streak with a comprehensive eight-wicket drubbing on May 13 in Pune.
Thus, Super Kings seem to hold a slight edge over their southern rivals, having beaten them twice in the league stage.
